Nevers and SB 23: Breaking Pay to (watch them) Play
A couple weeks ago, we covered a story on the hottest ticket in town: a seat on the Louisiana Board of Commissioners Stadium and Exposition District, aka the Superdome Commission. While it’s no Hannah Montana ticket, it may cost about the same. Several of Jindal’s appointees donated significant sums to his campaign, including J.E. Brignac’s whopping $15,000.
If Senator Ben Nevers gets his legislation passed, however, at least four of the commissioners would be precluded from being accepting such an appointment. This kind of legislation seems like it would be a welcome, sensible element of “gold standard” ethics reform. Whether it will actually pass remains to be seen, as does the governor’s position on the change. A quick look at his appointments suggests that Jindal won’t support it in the end.
