National Scrutiny of Jindal Begins
It was inevitable really. As a potential McCain VP pick, Jindal has enjoyed increased national prominence, appearing on countless cable shows as a surrogate for McCain. Jindal has been quick to tout the benefits, namely a greater national focus on Louisiana.
However the downside is greater scrutiny from the national media. While the Jindal exorcism story may be old hat in Louisiana, it was only a matter of time before the national media picked up on it. The results are not pretty. Is this really the view of Louisiana we wish to present to the nation?
Although this second video is a much more light hearted take on the issue, it makes the very salient point that to vast swathes of America Jindal’s exorcism experience will seem bizarre and rule him out of becoming McCain’s VP nominee.
During the 2007 Governor’s race Jindal did a good job of avoiding discussing his religious views in public, which enabled him to portray himself as a moderate. Now Jindal’s religious views and experiences are getting a wider airing, he may no longer be able to maintain that pretence. This has big implications, particularly if Jindal runs for president at some point in the future.
