Stonecipher: Jindal planned to run against Vitter
In an interview with Eric Asher on WIST radio in New Orleans, demographer Elliot Stonecipher claimed that Governor Jindal initially planned to run for Senate in 2010. According to Stonecipher, Republicans hoped a Jindal candidacy would have forced disgraced junior Senator David Vitter out of the race, but that Jindal would have been prepared to run against Vitter. Stonecipher said it was Vitter’s relatively impressive fundraising, along with a perception among national Republicans that Vitter has rehabilitated his image that stopped Jindal from going for his next promotion.
